Huh, that does look interesting. I happen to have a Kindle and $1.99 seems like a small price to pay. Will have to check it out!

Let me/us know. I agree that $1.99 is pretty reasonable. I saw somewhere on the internet where you could download an "app" to get Kindle books through your phone or computer but I'm not so inclined to do that until I hear more about it.

I went ahead and made the purchase. I'm about halfway into the book. The start of the book is pure retread - nothing new is presented about the origins of the group. So far, the overall organization of the book is pretty muddled. Rather than chapters, the author seems to think that offering headers are enough to distinguish sections. The author also tends to jump around chronologically with the narrative, which may be hard to follow for some. Once the book moves on to providing some behind-the-scenes anecdotes, the pace starts to pick up a bit and the author actually offers some very interesting snippets of information that may be revelatory to even longtime fans. (Although, admittedly, I've learned more about the extent of Jack Nicholson's involvement with the group pre-"Head" than anything else.) However, there are sections where the author kind of goes off the rails with their convoluted analyses of the group dynamics between the guys based on how they are represented in the show (including pairings between members that discuss which one was the more dominant, etc.) and specific scenes in "Head". Those overly-long segments read more like a paper for an academic presentation and are so speculative and overwrought that they do little to offer really worthwhile intel or entertainment for most readers.
So far, I'd say that $1.99 was a decent investment. You just have to be patient and read carefully to catch the occasional choice piece of info the author inserted into the book.
