Meow,
Here's a bit of history on Mike...the unofficial Leader of the Group
www.troubledscience.com/moviemirror.html
I like his songs. I think he is an excellent Balladeer, and for me, Michael Nesmith is the Monkees' chief songwriter. Even above Boyce & Hart.
But his morals...I would never want to be in his world. He appears to me a Loner at his core. Very different from Davy, who shares his birthday.
And I'll speculate, and say that he and Davy didn't necessarily have a Feud...Mike just didn't want to do the reunion shows "Davy's Way" and instead of fighting, simply walked away. As a fellow Cap (1/7), I respect that non-argumentative from Mike. If he'd have needed the tour money, however (like Davy did), I wonder if Mike would have stayed and tried to change the show to go his way. Something we (the fans) will never know.
I don't like the 1997 television reunion show. I thought it could have been better. It made everyone look like the Dummy.

Mike is an enigma, that is for sure! I saw him solo in April 2013 with my Nez head pal. Like you said, he is a wonderful Balladeer so he really took the audience on a journey with the stories he shared before he started playing the songs.

Yeah, that article was a little odd with the comments about Phylis being understanding. Uhhhh, I don't think so much. Wasn't the reason they got divorced over the Nurit and baby thing?

Meow,
Probably, rj. Maybe she just got older and woke up. Saw that they weren't equal in their marriage. I would have. She was just 16 (I think) when they married.
I hope I can find something more positive to share about Mike in future posts.

I agree with you BK about the relationship between Mike and Davy. I think the "arguing" was one-sided, with Davy shadowboxing and Mike being aloof and walking away. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the generous comments Mike made post-mortem about Davy were genuine and that Mike was so far removed from the fray with his own very busy career and life that he had little, if any, idea that Davy chronically made derogatory remarks about him. I also agree with you about the possible alternate history - considering how controlling Mike was when he was with the band, I could see that personality trait popping up again.
And I am definitely not a fan of the '97 special either. I was so excited when the project was announced and made a point of recording it as well (not sure where my tape is), only to feel completely disappointed when I watched it.
